Welcome from our President!
Greetings,
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year. The District 67 Association of Parents and Teachers (APT) is excited about the many programs and volunteer opportunities planned for this year throughout our District schools. We hope you choose to participate.
Each year the APT identifies a theme on which to focus its energy. This year’s theme is “Community”. Last year there were several challenges that brought our school and greater communities together. Carrying that energy forward is our goal. APT is working to see that all our students and families share in a common experience. We have spent hours comparing notes and finding ways to strengthen our programs.
The core mission of the APT is to promote good communication and cooperative working relationships among the community, school and home. We work to enhance the educational experience of all District 67 students through school-based programs, organized and implemented by parent volunteers. These programs are predominantly funded by APT dues. District 67 schools include Cherokee, Everett, and Sheridan elementary schools as well as Deer Path Middle School. Without the support of the District 67 families, none of this would be possible.
For those new to District 67, the APT operates similarly to the traditional Parent and Teachers Association, except that we do not fundraise. This important work is handled by the Spirit of 67 Foundation. Please refer to our chart showing how the APT and Spirit work together to enhance your child’s education.
JOIN
If you haven’t done so already, I hope you will chose to join the APT for the 2012-2013 year. Membership costs $28 per family and includes one APT directory that supplies class lists, names and addresses of District 67 students. Dues make up the majority of our annual operating budget and are directed back to the schools to finance APT programs. Simply click the link for a membership form.
VOLUNTEER
You are always welcome, but not required, to become more involved at any time. Your directory, weekly school newsletter, school website and District website all provide information about meetings and volunteer opportunities. All APT meetings are open and are a great place to learn about the volunteer opportunities in your child’s school and across the district. In the end our success depends on the enthusiastic support and involvement of District 67 parents.
Please contact myself, or your school’s APT president, should you have any questions. Have a great year.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Nemickas
Executive Board President
